Place de la Bourse

Heritage of the Gironde

City: BORDEAUX
BORDEAUX - Place de la Bourse
The Place de la Bourse :
the majesty of the facades and decorated sculpture, make it one of the most beautiful depictions of the XVIIIth century.

Formerly Place Royale, the Place de la Bourse was built from 1730 to 1755, based on the plans of the architects Gabriel, a father and son. It forms a magnificent architectural complex. From the two sides of the square rises the hotel des Fermes (to the south is the actual Museum of Customs), and the Palais de la Bourse (to the north).

The front of both buildings features magnificent façades with a setting of stone masks and sculpted pediment.

At the center of the plaza, the Trois-Grâces fountain replaces an equestrian statue of Louis XV, which was dismantled during the Revolution.
